| Nokia, one of the top names in the mobile phones category, has announced five new models of its cell phones. Out of the five models, there is a smart phone as well as 3G compatible handset, according to online reports from CommunicAsia, which is being held in Singapore this week.
The Nokia 6630 model is claimed to be the world's smallest 3G handset that weighs in at 4.5 ounces and measures 4.3x2.4x0.8 inches. The model uses Symbian operating system, has built-in Bluetooth support, 1.2 megapixels on-board camera with 6x digital zoom, which captures both still images as well as video. The 6630 is also equipped with MP3 player, RealNetworks' mobile video player, and the company's VPN client for users to securely connect to their corporate email servers, reported Nokia in a statement.
The 6630 is equipped with 74MB on-board memory with a removable multimedia flash memory card for optional storage. The company informed the included accessories to be an attachable flash and Bluetooth keyboard.
The newer model from the cell phone giant is reported to work with GSM and WCDMA networks. The GSM network frequencies include 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 1900 MHz. The phone will also support GSM networks with EDGE high speed data technology, reported PC World. The mobile device is expected to cost around $600.00 and is likely to debut during the fourth quarter 2004 in Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East.
Nokia's 6260 smart phone is also loaded with features. The GSM networked smart phone has multimedia slot and built-in VGA camera that can record live video as well as take still images. The phone operates on the company's series 60 smart phone software, which is based on the Symbian OS. The 6260 includes standard applications that one can expect from a smart phone. These applications include contacts list, e-mail, and a web browser. According to PC World, the new smart phone also supports push-to-talk connections.
This model has a display that can be moved back for web browsing and other tasks. The typing will be done via a Bluetooth keyboard. Nokia stated the phone to be available in Q3, 2004 and it is expected cost around $480.00.
The above reported were the company's high-end models, however, Nokia didn't forget its budget-conscious users. The phone maker released one new mid-range model and two low-end models as well.
Nokia's 6170 is a mid-range model with built-in camera capability that can capture live videos and take still images. It is equipped with two-colored screens. The main internal screen is 128x160 pixels and supports 65,536 colors while the external screen is 96x95 pixels and supports 4096 colors.
This mid-range model will be available to consumers worldwide for about $300.00.
The low-end 2650 and 2600 models have various features including the standard calendar software, contacts database, and spreadsheet. The 2650 and 2600 will also be available in the market starting Q3, 2004, however, the company did not comment on pricing, said PC World.
