Dell launches four-way 64-bit Itanium server

Dell, one of the largest makers of personal computers and server builders, announced that it will ship a four-way, 64-bit Itanium server for high-end, enterprise level applications. This 7250 server model will become Dell's fastest server as of date.

The 7250 server will target high-en applications such as MySQL Server, Oracle Databases, and other enterprise level applications from PeopleSoft, SAP, and SAS, according to Dell.

According to online reports, consumers will be able to stack as many as four Itanium 2 based servers on a 4U solution. The chassis itself can contain as much as 32GB of system memory. Dell will pre-install either Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or RedHat Enterprise Edition 3.0 before the 7250 servers are shipped to consumers.

Dell reports this server to be the fastest in the company's history. This solution will set a new mark in scalability and performance, reported Dell. The company plans to keep the prices low, while providing best performance possible.

The PowerEdge 7250 series servers are avilable now with prices starting at $12,499.00
